How to ask the ministry for help
Special Needs Agreements
If your child has a permanent or long-term disability, you and your family may be eligible for extra assistance. Contact the Community Living Department of the Ministry of Children and Family Development and ask about Special Needs Agreements and the other available services and programs. Through Special Needs Agreements, the ministry may provide such services as respite care, in-home support, child care staff, and nursing support.
For an agreement to be made, a doctor or other professional must complete a medical report confirming that your child's condition is severe and expected to be long-term. There should be no child protection concerns. Again, a social worker will help you explore all the available care and support options.
The first agreement can last for up to 6 months and may be renewed for 12-month periods. Parents have to pay for the care provided, based on their income.
