How to make a complaint against the ministry
Tips on preparing to meet with a ministry supervisor
- Set up an appointment with the supervisor or team leader. Plan to take a friend or other support person with you. Make a plan prior to the meeting about what you're going to say and how you're going to say it.
- At the meeting, provide a written summary of your complaint and the steps you've taken to resolve it.
- Explain why you believe your complaint is valid, and clearly state the change or results you want.
- Listen to the supervisor’s explanation and suggestions.
- Ask all the questions you need in order to understand the supervisor’s position. Keep in mind that the supervisor may not be able to do what you want. Work together to find a fair solution that you can live with.
- Take notes.
- Take time to think over or discuss any suggested solution with your friend or support person before you agree to the solution.
- Write up a summary of the interview: what you said and heard, what was agreed, and any deadlines decided on. Give a copy to the supervisor.
- If or when the problem is resolved, say so and thank the supervisor in writing.
