How to do your own undefended (uncontested) divorce

Who this guide is for

This self-help guide is for you if you:

  • want to file for divorce in BC,
  • have lived in BC for at least one year before starting the divorce,
  • will live in BC during the divorce,
  • have been separated for at least one year, and
  • agree with your spouse about getting a divorce.

This guide is not for you if:

  • one spouse doesn't agree to the divorce,
  • one spouse wants to claim for divorce on the grounds of cruelty or adultery,
  • the divorce becomes complicated, or
  • either spouse wants to make a claim to divide property, assets, or debts.
