Family LawLINE

If you are a person with a low income experiencing a family law issue, you may be eligible for free legal advice over the telephone from a family lawyer.

Family LawLINE lawyers give brief "next step" advice about custody, access, guardianship, child/spousal support, property division, family agreements, adoption, and court procedures. You may be able to get this help whether or not you qualify for a legal aid lawyer. See Do I qualify? on the LSS website.

These lawyers give advice over the telephone to callers who don't qualify for other services. Two Family LawLINE lawyers in locations throughout BC take calls through a central phone system each day.

To be considered for this service, call the Provincial Call Centre between 9:30 a.m. and 3:00 p.m. on Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Fridays, or between 9:30 a.m. and 12:00 p.m. on Wednesdays. An intake worker will ask you questions about your financial situation and your legal issue. If you qualify, you'll be transferred to an available lawyer.
