Family LawLINE
If you're a person with a low income experiencing a family law issue, you may be eligible for free legal advice over the telephone from a family lawyer.
Family LawLINE lawyers give brief "next step" advice about:
- parenting,
- child/spousal support,
- property division,
- family agreements,
- adoption, and
- court procedures.
These lawyers give advice over the telephone to callers who don't qualify for other legal aid services. You may be able to get this help whether or not you qualify for a legal aid lawyer. See Do I qualify? on the Legal Services Society (BC Legal Aid) website.
Two Family LawLINE lawyers in locations throughout BC take calls through a central phone system each day. To be considered for this service, call BC Legal Aid's provincial call centre at 604-408-2172 (Greater Vancouver) or 1-866-577-2525 (call no charge, elsewhere in BC) during the following hours:
- Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Fridays: between 9:30 a.m. and 3 p.m.
- Wednesdays: between 9:30 a.m. and 2:30 p.m.
An intake worker will ask you questions about your financial situation and your legal issue. If you qualify, you'll be transferred to an available Family LawLINE lawyer.
